WHEN THE SEA COMES IN
EXHIBITION LOOKS AT 1953 FLOODS ON SUFFOLK COASTLINE

When the Sea Comes In is an exhibition taken from the archives of the Walberswick History Group, with kind permission, and shows through pictures, media cuttings, the paintings and diary of resident Jessie Browton, the effects and outcomes of the 1953 floods and the actions taken to protect the Suffolk coastline. Visitors will see how the village looked before the storm through paintings, hear stories of the night through a new oral history presentation, learn how floods happen and what measures have been taken to protect our coastline after this and the subsequent floods of 2007 and 2013.
There are timelines, charts of how the storm happened as well as a presentation about floods. Jessie Browton's beautifully handwritten diary provides an inspiration for children to use ink pens and try their hand at emulating her style sitting at old school desks. The film made of the flood will be shown at a specific time on days the exhibition is open.
