Kyson – free term time clubs give children much-needed boost!

The lockdown periods have meant that many children have missed out on opportunities to help vital development – especially not being able to attend extra-curricular activities. Kyson primary school has responded with a fabulous array of free term-time clubs to address this issue.

According to the primary school’s hard-working team, these ‘clubs’ are such an important aspect of children’s development and enrich their experiences.

Staff feel strongly that “catch-up,” a phrase coined by the government during these trying times, should include children’s personal and social development as well as academic achievement.

And you don’t have to take their word for it! Here are just some of the many positive comments from Kyson pupils themselves, about what their precious clubs mean to them:

I had know idea how to play cricket, and now, I am much better at it and I now know cricket is so fun!Freya 5B (cricket club)

‘You get to build monkey villages!’ Martha 1F (Lego club)

“I don’t know what my favourite part of golf is, I love it all so much!Leo 3S (golf club)

I absolutely love nature club because we play really fun games and we interact with our environment.said Otto, 5B (nature club)

Kyson is determined to make their clubs stronger than ever and to ensure that children make the most of the offer available.

Despite Covid restrictions, limiting children to stay within their bubble groups, 451 clubs spaces have been taken up across a week.

Kyson has formed vital partnerships with Inspire Suffolk, Dily’s Dance, Melton Cricket Club, Seckford Golf Club and Woodbridge Tennis Club to help deliver a fantastic extra-curricular offering.

There are also clubs run by the school’s staff – even a Forest School Leader.

There are 29 different clubs available to pick from every week.

Better still, the school has funded all of the clubs so that they are completely free to all children.
