The Story Weaver's Song

The Story Weaver's Song

A snowy Christmas path. A chimney whispering smoke into the crisp air. In the distance, firelight glows from a thatch-roofed cottage, inviting us into a world of wonder and story …

New Street Market - Woodbridge’s creative hub

New Street Market in Woodbridge is staging a fabulously festive treat next month (December) which is a must for the diary. The Story Weaver’s Song - an original Christmas play by Suffolk resident Neena Atkinson - is packed with live music, song and tales, true and fantastical.

Suitable for audiences aged from five to 95, Neena says the story centres on Wynn as she meets the magical Wenburh, whose wintertime yarns fill Wynn’s heart as the warmth of Christmas spirit wraps her up.

Neena, who acted and directed for a living for many years, says The Story Weaver’s Song was her first foray in a long while back into the creative landscape. “In recent months I've been getting itchy feet to be immersed in that world of creativity,” she says.

In fact it was thanks to New Street Market in Woodbridge - the creative centre of the town - where the idea for this fantastical story was first hatched.

“Weary with world events and the seemingly relentless onslaught of 'bad news',” says Neena, “I went to a New Street Market ‘Golden Hour’ where a group of local musicians had come together to create a truly uplifting evening. I left feeling restored and more hopeful about who we can all be for one another. “Generous, live performance can do that. And so I decided to get off my backside and participate in generating a bit of delight.  That's how this Christmas show was born.”

Set to dazzle festive audiences at the venue in New Street, Woodbridge on Saturday 13th December and Sunday 14th December starting at 3pm, Neena is part of an ensemble of talented local performers including Stefan Atkinson, David Tricker, Ned Moss, Mary Rogers and Joanna Coates (who painted the beautiful poster above).

Neena adds, “Daniel Metz has made it possible at New Street Market and various friends and local businesses are contributing to the decoration of our performance space. This is a show created by friends and community for friends and community. And that is a story I like very much. Hope to see you there!”
